I realized the main three niches of my blog are food, lifestyle and family and I haven’t touched on family in awhile. So I wanted to talk about something that a lot of parents may be feeling – I know I certainly was.
Parent Guilt for adding an additional sibling into the family (Especially when you’ve got an only child). When I first found out I was pregnant I was elated.. So excited to be bringing another wonderful soul into this world who would hopefully carry my values, my love for God and my humor 😉 But then I began to feel a deep pain for my Hudson. He’s got other siblings on his Dad’s side but they’re part time and he’s got his Mommy 100% of the time. It’s been Mommy and Hudson for 3 whole years and it’s been amazing..
But now it won’t be.. And in our situation it’ll be TWICE the sharing now that we found out we’re having twins. I spent many a nights crying myself to sleep.. It hurts to say but I was no longer excited for my babies anymore, because I felt like I was completely betraying my little boy.
But after speaking with other parents who had multiple children it always came down to the same answer.. Your heart finds a way. All of the anxiety and pain goes away as soon as you meet your babies and you realize you have way more room in your heart than you thought was humanly possible and when your little sees their new lifelong best friend(s) they don’t see it as a competition for your love (Well maybe a little, but not to the extreme you imagined 😉 ) but instead they see an exciting new chapter with new loved ones.
That has completely eased my mind. Hudson is so in love with my belly and talks about his little brothers often as if he can’t wait to meet them.. And because of the advice and my son’s adoration it’s completely cured my Mommy Guilt. So don’t worry Mommy, or Daddy.. It’ll be okay, you’re capable of tremendous amounts of love and the only thing you can do is continue to tell your little how much you love them and always will.
I’m supposed to be on light bed rest but instead I’ve been taking Hudson out and spending as much time with him as I can so he knows that even though Mommy is exhausted with these babies that he’s still important to me and always will be.
Parenting is the most rewarding and scary job in the world – But I wouldn’t trade it in for the world. So let go of your guilt.. You’re killing it!
My Hubby and I are mega sick with something.. Our coughing has been so bad it’s nearly impossible to sleep at night. So I ran to the grocery store today to grab some ingredients to make some homemade paleo chicken noodle soup..
And well, it turned out INCREDIBLE and has already helped the inflammation in our throats. Try it out if you’re looking for a healthy alternative to a classic cold remedy!
Try it for yourself and tell me if it helped you at all with an illness or if you made any changes! xoxo
Hey y’all – I am so sorry for the long hiatus.. It’s been a rough few months. We found out we’re pregnant with twins!! For the first 2 1/2 months I was so so incredibly sick and it finally let up! I’ve got two healthy babies in there and am now back on track with gluten free paleo eating so will be posting more often again and can’t wait to reconnect with y’all!
It’s a pretty tough decision choosing the right hospital for your labor delivery. If you ask another parent they’ll all give you hundreds of different suggestions.
When I was pregnant with Hudson in 2015 I decided I wanted it to be solely my decision based on what I believed was most important for my son and myself.
After doing a lot of research I decided Good Samaritan seemed like the best fit because it was designated Colorado’s first Baby-Friendly Hospital by UNICEF. They were very pro-breastfeeding which was something I’ve always been so passionate about due to the plethora of health benefits it provides your baby.
I did a hospital tour after making my decision to ensure it was in an area I felt safe and would feel proud to have my family come to to meet my gorgeous baby boy.
Upon arriving my Husband and I were in awe. It was absolutely beautiful – Tucked in the town of Lafayette there were mountain views, modern touches, delicious food/drink shops and the classes they had consistently running were such an amazing perk. We decided then and there this was the hospital for us.
On November 22nd I began having my contractions and we were off to Good Samaritan! It was such an exciting ride. Once we arrived we were pleasantly greeted and placed into a beautiful, comfortable room waiting for our little Hudson to grace us with his presence. After 10 hours he was ready. This was my first baby so I was terrified of labor but the nurses were absolutely incredible and my Doctor was so helpful that it made the whole experience a lot less stressful!
Once Hudson was born the caregivers were there every step of the way! A lactation specialist came in and assisted in teaching me how to get him to latch and came in every few hours to ensure it was still going well. I had a free post-labor massage which was AMAZING and we had some delicious food!!
We stayed for a few days then when we were getting ready to head home were given a humungous bag of food so we didn’t have to worry about cooking for a few days! We were also scheduled a nurse to come to our house a week after taking him house to make sure Hudson was healthy, I was healthy and that breastfeeding was still going well. I love how breastfeeding focused they were!
We still talk about the wonderful experience we had at Good Samaritan and plan on using them for our next baby’s delivery as well! Highly recommend them to anyone looking for a comfortable, breastfeeding encouraging hospital in the Denver area!

Update:: I am now four months pregnant with my twin boys and I cannot drive without using the Tummy Shield as I don’t feel safe at all without it! It’s securely fastened to the back of my seat and the belt adjuster makes my seat belt very tight without constricting my tummy! I am obsessed with this product and completely recommend it to all pregnant women – Especially if you live in an area with inclement weather! It’s literally a life saver!
“Automobile crashes are the largest single cause of death for pregnant women and the leading cause of traumatic fetal injury mortality in the United States.” U.S. National Library of Medicine.
My biggest fear when I was pregnant with Hudson was getting into a crash. I was petrified. What would happen if the airbag hit my tummy? What would happen to my boy? I avoided driving like the plague. Unless I absolutely had to I would stay at home. I really wish the Tummy Shield was around when I had him because I would’ve felt comfortable driving ALL the time.
What is the Tummy Shield? It is the ONLY crash-testedpregnancy seat belt adjuster that actually protects baby in the event of a crash, the Tummy Shield:
has a patented design that redirects the seat belt away from the pregnant belly, securing the seat belt at the leg, not the across the low belly where it can injure your unborn baby
is constructed of a stainless steel plate and anchor that attaches securely to the car seat and holds the seat belt firmly in place, without dangerous slippage or excessive slack
was successfully crash tested showing the seat belt continues to comply with current safety standards
was engineered to be at least as strong as the seat belt.
A little piece of insurance and a lot of peace of mind!
Thank goodness I planned ahead and got this before my next baby.. I won’t have to worry when the time comes.. 🙂
